Optimal laser focusing for positron production in laser–electron scattering

چکیده

Laser–electron beam collisions that aim to generate electron–positron pairs require laser intensities I ≳ 1021 W cm−2, which can be obtained by focusing a 1-PW optical spot smaller than 10 μm. Spatial synchronization is challenge because of the Poynting instability concern both for interacting electron (if laser-generated) and scattering laser. One strategy overcome this problem use an coming from accelerator (e.g., planned E-320 experiment at FACET-II). Even using stable beam, plane wave approximation too simplistic describe laser–electron scattering. This work extends analytical scaling laws pair production, previously derived case short beam. We consider focused colliding with beams different shapes sizes. The results take spatial temporal interaction into account, extended arbitrary shapes, prescribe optimization strategies near-future experiments.

Polarisation potentials for positron-molecule collisions: positron-H, scattering

Model polarisation potentials for use in calculating positron-molecule cross sections are often based on approximations in which terms that depend on the sign of the charge of the projectile are neglected. Thus, these potentials do not fully distinguish between electron and positron scattering. The validity of using such potentials for positronH2 collisions is investigated by performing scatter...

Focusing through dynamic scattering media.

We demonstrate steady-state focusing of coherent light through dynamic scattering media. The phase of an incident beam is controlled both spatially and temporally using a reflective, 1020-segment MEMS spatial light modulator, using a coordinate descent optimization technique. We achieve focal intensity enhancement of between 5 and 400 for dynamic media with speckle decorrelation time constants ...

Laser Focusing of Atoms for Nanostructure Fabrication

Laser-focusing of atoms has emerged as a viable form of nanofabrication. Structures are formed by focusing chromium atoms as they deposit onto a surface. The focusing occurs in a standing-wave laser field in one or two dimensions, resulting in arrays spaced at exactly half the laser wavelength ( /2 = 212.78 nm). Atomic force, scanning electron, and transmission electron microscopies are used to...
